YOUR VISION, OUR STAGE

Passionate directors, your creative journey awaits at the Sheboygan Theatre Company. We're seeking talented artists to bring four distinctive productions to life during our 92nd season, offering a unique opportunity to craft memorable theatrical experiences.Our volunteer productions have consistently drawn professional directors who are eager to explore innovative storytelling and engage with a dedicated community theatre ensemble.

Production Season

Our 92nd season features four diverse productions:

Young Frankenstein
  • Auditions: Approximately August 4, 2025

  • Performance Dates: September 26-October 4, 2025
     

Steel Magnolias

  • Auditions: Approximately October 13, 2025

  • Performance Dates: December 5-13, 2025
     

The Play That Goes Wrong

  • Auditions: Approximately December 8, 2025

  • Performance Dates: February 13-21, 2026
     

Mamma Mia!

  • Auditions: Approximately March 16, 2026

  • Performance Dates: May 8-16, 2026

Rehearsal Details

  • Duration: Six to seven weeks

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday evenings

  • Location: Sheboygan, Wisconsin
     

Housing and Transportation

  • Housing Options:

    • Free housing with local host families

    • Low-cost hotel accommodations
       

  • Transportation:

    • Transportation to/from Wisconsin is not provided

    • Local transportation available from Milwaukee or Chicago

    • Reasonable local travel within Sheboygan arranged

    • Personal vehicle recommended for flexibility
       

Performance Venue

Productions are staged at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, located within Horace Mann Middle School:
 

  • 870-seat stadium-style theatre

  • Built in the 1970s specifically for STC

  • 58-foot proscenium

  • Circular thrust stage

  • Functional downstage elevators (38 feet wide upstage)
     

Compensation and Expectations

  • Stipend: Paid in two installments

    1. Halfway through the rehearsal process

    2. Upon contract completion

  • Negotiation: Possible within posted pay range

  • Commitment: Flexible audition and first rehearsal dates

  • No obligation to stay beyond opening night
     

Director Qualifications

We seek directors who can:

  • Work effectively with actors and staff of all experience levels

  • Demonstrate patience with performers balancing theatre commitments and personal responsibilities

  • Adapt to a volunteer-driven production environment
     

Community Information

Sheboygan is a picturesque community of 50,000, located on Lake Michigan about one hour north of Milwaukee. The limited rehearsal hours provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy downtime in a scenic area and potentially work on other projects.

  • Note: A criminal background check is required for all candidates
